Continue exploring e-PatternsCentral.com by clicking on the links in the top navigation bar or by using the search tools we've provided. Enter a keyword in the search field and click "Go" to perform a search. Remember these helpful tips when searching:

Search with synonyms to improve results.
If a keyword search provides only limited results, try substituting terms that mean the same thing.
Spelling counts!
If you can't find what you're looking for, check your spelling. While spelling counts, capitalization doesn't matter.
Watch spaces between words.
Be sure to place a space between keywords so we can see exactly what you're searching for. If you're not sure about spacing, perform separate searches for each of your options.
One search at a time, please.
Our search works best when you pose only one search question or phrase at a time. If you're looking for information on afghans and sweaters, perform two different keyword searches.

Company Name:  Happy Hollows Designs
Designer Name:  Tamara Carlson
Home State:  Kansas
Design Specialty:  Trendy quick and easy quilt projects

1 How did you first get introduced to your craft?

My mother introduced me to sewing when I was barely old enough to sit at the sewing machine. She always encouraged my creativity no matter what the medium.

2 What type of patterns do you enjoy designing the most?

Quilting patterns are my favorite. After purchasing a long-arm quilting machine several years ago I was hooked on quilting. Prior to that, I had mostly designed dimensional soft-sculptured items such as Santa, witches, scarecrows, etc.

3 What are you most known for?

I am best known for my non-traditional quilt designs. While I love the traditional motifs on large quilts I tend to design trendy projects that produce dimensional characters or novel ideas such as ornaments, three-dimensional Santas, candle mats, spinning stars, etc.

4 How do you jump-start your creativity?

My problem isn't jump-starting, it's shutting it off! I have a life-long passion for what I do and I always have more ideas than can possibly be produced. I love quilting and believe my job is to inspire others.

5 What season inspires you the most?

My favorite season is fall. I love to design whimsical scarecrows and witches for the season. I must admit, though, since the birth of our son seven years ago, Santa has become quite an important fellow at our house and has influenced my designs. We all know the true meaning of the season but Santa is a wonderful way to teach small children the value of generosity and giving.

6 On average, how many new patterns do you design each year?

I produce between 24 and 30 new designs each year for Happy Hollow Designs. In addition, I usually contract design 5 to 10 designs for chain stores and other corporate entities as my time allows.

7 Is there another craft you'd like to try your hand at?

I have never had the opportunity to learn knitting or crochet, but I am fascinated with tatting and would love to learn.

8 What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Taking our seven-year-old-son on a "treasure hunt" at our country home.

9 What three items do you always have in your craft bag?

I don't have just a craft bag, I have craft buildings that I have the pleasure of working in daily. However, I never leave home without my laptop, sketch pad and a pencil.
