Company Name:  ShiFio's Patterns
Designer Name:  Shirley Ross/Fiona Thompson
Home State:  Inverness, Scotland
Design Specialty:  Baby crochet and knitting patterns

1 How did you first get introduced to your craft?

Shirley: My mother taught me how to knit and crochet at a very young age. I have three sisters and she made all our sweaters, etc.
Fiona: Mum always had a crochet hook or a knitting needle in her hand, and as her only daughter, it was only natural that she would pass her vast knowledge on to me. Thank you, Mum!

2 What type of patterns do you enjoy designing the most?

Shirley: Mostly baby crochet, I am the knitting designer of the team so it depends on what mood I'm in as to what I like to do.
Fiona: Any frilly girly baby crochet patterns. Anything pink!

3 What are you most known for?

Shirley & Fiona: Baby patterns

4 How do you jump-start your creativity?

Shirley: I am inspired by all sorts of things. When I start desiging something, it sort of developes as it grows and can turn out quite different from where it started out.
Fiona: Ideas just pop into my head. I draw them in a sketch book and when I need an idea, that's where I look.

5 What season inspires you the most?

Shirley: Probably winter. The weather makes you want to stay in and create.
Fiona : Autumn, because I know people will be looking for new patterns for staying inside during winter.

6 On average, how many new patterns do you design each year?

Shirley: That's difficult to answer because I could do a lot more if I could just make myself sit down and concentrate. I could easy do 12 plus a year.
Fiona: We usually manage about 30 a year between us.

7 Is there another craft you'd like to try your hand at?

Shirley: Painting.
Fiona: No. I have tried so many, from cross-stitch to ceramics to glass painting, but my favourite is always crochet.

8 What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Shirley: If the weather is good, having a family barbeque or visiting my family.
Fiona: Lying on the sofa with my crochet and my dog, watching a family movie and smelling the Sunday roast cooking.

9 What three items do you always have in your craft bag?

Shirley: Crochet hook, yarn, pen and paper (I know that's four, but you can't have pen without paper!).
Fiona: Hooks, yarn and scissors. Three items are very hard to choose!
